Karl Lagerfeld: Slav to Fashion / Chanel Pre-Fall 09

The images from Lagerfeld's show in Paris last week are utterly breathtaking: "Economy be darned, this was one extravagant production, with the collection's every item channeling the unmistakable look and pulse of Russia, from onion-domed gold heels and astrakhan muffs to fantasy folkloric headdresses by Japanese wizard Kamo" (wwd.com).

With clothes this divine, I could come to love cold weather dressing:

Here are a few key pieces I think I need ASAP to pull of the Lagerfeld look and make me feel like a "Slav to Fashion" [for a lot less]:

Glittery lurex tights.

That elaborate red and gold set makes the clothes look even more exotic. The collection is reminiscent of St. Laurent's Russian collection of 1976.

Wow this post has me drooling over my keyboard - so many beautiful images! I love your cheaper alternatives too, especially the tulle skirt.

couture allure -- it is so exotic, and the piled on details are just stunning! I love his interpretation of russian fashion -- very Dr. Zhivago!

karen -- You could definitely pull off that tulle skirt -- I love tulle, but fear I look a bit puffy in it ;)

I love the fourth-to-last ensemble and the fabric with the orange best. I might need some sparkly gold tights, too!

Brigid -- yes, those gold tights have become my new obsession -- why have I never thought of it before??

Such an unusual collection: it's like a hybrid of art deco and art nouveau. I just love it.
