Feeling Bookish?

{via FFFound}

Regrettably, being an English major has hardened me to the joys of reading -- it often seems more like a job and less like a pleasurable escape. One good thing about the weather turning cold is that I actually feel the urge to pick up a good book and lounge around on the sofa {versus the summer, when I just want to be frolicking around out-of-doors}. I plan on indulging this bookish feeling while it lasts...

I love picking up a familiar text -- it helps remind me why I fell in love with books to begin with. I'm completely in lust with Faber's new 80th Anniversary editions of classic poetry. The gorgeous, graphic black-and-white editions include personal favorites, like Sylvia Plath and T.S. Eliot.

The Penguin Classics editions designed by Coralie Bickford-Smith come out in October... Somehow these manage to make Oliver Twist and The Odyssey seem fresh and exciting again.

White's Books is a new boutique publishing venture that is also releasing classics with stunning cover art work {by David Pearson}. The worn-out saying really seems to ring true: classics never go out of style!

If you're a book worm {or just looking for some eye-candy for your bookshelf}, take a gander at these fantastic book/cover design blogs: No Such Book, Faceout Books, and The Casual Optimist.
Happy Reading!

Oh, I love books! And although my music-industry required reading is very interesting, I still prefer to snuggle up with a good fiction ;) It's actually been so cold here there's frost on the ground and the mountains are white again. That's Northern Norway, huh? :p

Those covers are all gorgeous! I've been bookish lately, too. I read one last week and am in the middle of three others at the moment.

I love it when publishing houses re-issue classics in fancy new covers!! These look very collectable! I'm currently in the middle of the epic "Atlas Shrugged" it's 1168 pages long and I'm LOVING it!!

These books ARE beautiful. It's exciting that someone out there is republishing books with attractive covers; usually I rely on finding vintage books for their aesthetic appeal, but they unfortunately tend to fall apart if you attempt to read them!

Thanks for this!

Hardened to the joys of reading?????
Say it is not so, as a librarian, I am always around books, I cannot think of anything better. Do you find it hard to turn of your analysing brain, and just read the book?
A fate worse than death...*cue dramatic music and moody lighting*

Spotless Mind -- Norway sounds beautiful! I like all kinds of reading, but it seems that I always want to read the opposite of whatever I am having to read at the moment for school!

Brigid -- Wow! Three at a time? That's impressive!

Sam -- I still haven't ventured to read "Atlas Shrugged." It is definitely on my list of books to read one day when I have time.

Blood Milk -- I know; it makes the books seem exciting again somehow.

Lauren -- I also love vintage books, but so many of them have fallen apart, or I am afraid to open them too far. Also, I kind of like writing in my books, so more often than not, I go for the cheap paperback!

Braindance -- I think it has more to do with the fact that because I HAVE to read so much, that when I have free time, I would rather do something else...I know, it is bad!

Kira -- And when the weather is cold, you don't feel like you are missing out on anything!
