Thank Goodness for Goodwill

I have been trying to reign in my clothes/shoes spending over the past few months, although it seems I still find ways to spend money elsewhere [i.e. cosmetics, Christmas gifts, etc]. I have a Goodwill thrift store the size of a Super-Walmart right down the street from my apartment, and every few weeks it seems to call my name on my drive home from work... I have not been too tempted by anything on the racks for a while, but they put out the winter items last week, and I went a bit crazy. Just thought I would share a few of my new, "guiltless" goodies:

Glamorous/slightly wacky faux fur vest, $12.

Awesome cropped leather jacket with lots of zippers that makes me feel far more bad-ass than I really am, $25.

This is me coyly posing in the mirror in my bad-ass jacket and my lumberjacket flannel (as my boyfriend calls it)...my photographer (i.e. the boyfriend) was on hiatus...

A Margot [from The Royal Tenenbaums]-inspired Vintage faux-fur coat, $15.

And, some things that passed me by...

I really loved this 80's sequin gown [the sequins and geometric shapes felt a bit art deco], but it was so unflattering, unfortunately...

I was also sad to find these two adorable pair of leather oxfords were not even close to my size...wish I knew someone who wore a size 5 to buy these for...

Wow I love the jackets you bought! Especially the leather jacket and the Margot coat.

And nothing beats a bit of lumberjack flannel to spice up an outfit! :D I love it!

Greatly impressed at the mention of The Royal Tenenbaums (not enough people love that film) and also by the coat!! It's a damn fine (faux) fur.

miss karen -- thanks! I love good thrift finds; it seems they become fewer and farther between lately, but this was a lucky day!

cable -- love your profile pic, LOL! I am excited about that coat...still waiting for it to get cold enough to wear it...along with lots of dark eye-liner, ala Margot.

Wow, I've never found anything that tasteful at the Goodwill near me. Some awesome stuff, particularly the faux fur.

Elizabeth -- I think it was just my lucky day...it doesn't happen most of the time.

That Goodwill is awesome. I grew up shopping at Tulsa thrift stores, so I have a whole catalog in my head of the best ones for different things. That's my top clothing and household goods (i.e. dishes and small decor items) destination.

great finds...

brigid -- I used to be so much more in the know about the best places to find stuff. Do you remember the amazing vintage shop on Cherry street called Spectrum?? The owner had everything --even Victorian gowns! I miss that shop...

savvy -- thanks! All the stars aligned that day!

Oh, I'm so relieved I'm not the only one spending money on myself right before christmas! The fur vest looks gorgeous - it's much more fun to find a vintage one than to buy one from a chain store that everybody else will be wearing.

airam -- yes, I do tend to do that...though I have been better about it this year.

very lovely!

wish our goodwills had amazing finds like those!

ana -- sometimes you just have to be persistent. Of course, in smaller cities, it is easier to find good stuff.

Please take pictures of you rocking that furry vest. Please!

[Tara] said...

grace -- I will...as soon as I figure out what to wear it with. My tendency is to pair with a flannel, LOL. But I feel like it deserves to be worn with a formal gown or something...
