Have an Eye-Opening Weekend

I came across these lovely, bizarre cubist fashion photographs by Torkil Gudnason and just had to share them...and of course, because I am a bit research-happy, I had to find some Picasso portraits and a cubist poem to complement them. The thing that is most fascinating to me about cubism is the notion that an artist can paint (or write) multiple perspectives and angles simultaneously --that somehow by representing all the many pieces of a person or thing, you can create a whole. Of course, this is impossible, but the very attempt is radical and eye-opening...and strangely beautiful.
I hope you have an eye-opening weekend!!

Ought to be like painting

Still And literature

My portrait
My heart beats
It's an alarm clock

I'm full length
My head smokes

These...okay, might not be my cup of tea, but it's an amazing idea. They're some of the most interesting fashion photos I've seen in a while, incorporating an idea/ideal into the piece, rather than just taking pretty pictures! :)

Very nice comparisons. Cubist artwork fascinates me.

What an incredible post! I had never seen cubist photography befpre, and I am enthralled - love the juxtaposition with the Picassos!

This is an awesome post! I love cubism. I think it's because you can't take the subjects too seriously. I love the photos!

lacouturier -- thanks!!

tamara -- It just kind of happened, but the juxtaposition works!

cable zombie -- yeah, cubism isn't my favorite art movement, but the idea behind it is intriguing...

couture allure -- me too; it is both ugly and beautiful.

couture carrie -- I had never seen anyone try to do cubist photography before either -- such a strange idea, but it seems pretty do-able in the digital age.

asian cajuns -- thanks my dears -- i'm glad you enjoyed!

SOS -- thanks ladies!
