Chocks Away Old Boy!

I intended to post these weeks ago! Oops! This is definitely one of my favorite fashion editorials in ages [by the master of surrealist photography, Tim Walker]. His interpretation of a 40's/war theme is so bizarre... I like the way he imagines the collision of the airplane with the home -- as if he is pointing out that nowhere was safe from the ravages of the war. I am also intrigued at how he imagines the woman in the trenches...perhaps I am over-thinking it, but it is rather genius!

What is your take on it??
Have a fanciful weekend my friends!!

French Nautical: My Stripe Fetish

I haven't done an outfit post in a while...

This is what I wore to work yesterday-- fairly classic and simple. I was excited to receive my striped top yesterday from LL Bean [not a place I usually shop, mind you]. I have probably purchased 3 or 4 similar tops in the past two years alone, because I clearly have an obsession with French nautical stripes, and I am always on the lookout for the perfect one. I decided to buy this one because it is made of a thick-knit, high quality cotton [and also because I got chocolate on my favorite one...grrrrr]. Do you have a certain clothing item or accessory that you find yourself buying over and over again??
I have also been bringing out my Levi's light-wash denim jacket for a few weeks now -- thank goodness I kept it from...ahem...the early 90's.

[Silk blend cropped trousers, Simply Vera Wang. Black suede wedges, Nine West. Silk scarf, vintage. Levi's jean jacket. Sunglasses, Urban Outfitters.]

More classic, striped perfection:

Diamond Dogs: Rock Gods of 70's Glam

My boyfriend and I watched 70's glam rock concert videos on YouTube for an inordinate amount of time last night, and he expressed his firm belief that the best fashion and music EVER emerged in or around 1972. While I'm not sure I agree completely [it would be a 3-way tie between the 1920's, 1970's and the 1980's for me...], I do have to admit that two of the sexiest men to have shared their vocal talents and tight pants with the world were products of the early 70's glam phenomenon: Brian Ferry [of Roxy Music] and David Bowie. In any case, I have decided to take a moment to bow down and thank Roxy Music, T Rex, New York Dolls, and Bowie for what they gave us:

♥The aforementioned tight pants.
♥ Shiny lips...well, shiny anything, for both men and women.
♥ High-heel platforms.
♥ Bare chests as a fashion-statement.
♥ Feathers, fur, and sequins for daywear.
♥Animal prints.
♥Expressive makeup [i.e. lighting bolts]
♥Leotards, again for men or women.
♥Androgyny!!

Some Glam-tastic inspiration for you...

Brian Ferry was still dreamy, even when he toned down the glam and started wearing his signature ties:

And, need I mention Roxy Music had the best album covers??

T Rex, bringing the 80's metal hair before the 80's ever happened:

The New York Dolls took it all the way -- one part machismo, one part drag queen:

And of course, the sexiest man to have ever fell to earth ... [images from the Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, Pinups, and Diamond Dogs eras...]

This photo just leaves me speechless, simply put:

Coco Fever

There are some exciting films about amazing women coming out this year! I can't wait for Coco Avant Chanel [starring adorable Audrey Tatou]...it comes out in France in April, and a few months later in the states.

This month's Paris Vogue celebrates the release...

"A gentleman with a pug nose is a contradiction in terms" --Edgar Allan Poe

...but this little guy is certainly a gentleman!
My pug Gidget asked that I post this picture. We both agree that it is the cutest photo we have seen in a long while!

[oops...I forgot...photo is from Facehunter]

“I should have no compassion on these witches; I should burn them all”

I wish I could have twitched my nose like Samantha from Bewitched and been there to see the Lauren Alexander and Gaby Applegate's Witches line premiere at Chateau Marmont's Bungalow 4. A little goth, a little glam, a little Stevie Nicks...[check out Ron Herman soon for their line!]

Monday Mischief: She-Aviator

Do you ever have one of those weeks where it seems that a random theme emerges again and again? The past week or so has definitely taken on an aviator theme for me: at a party last weekend, I donned my friend Ryan's aviator cap and goggles [he wears them to ride his scooter], and I felt they added a certain je ne sais quoi to my ensemble...of course, I was also just being a goofball. That same night I heard that an Amelia Earhart film is in the works, starring Hilary Swank. If you ask me, Amelia is one of the most amazing [and often underrated] people who have walked the planet, so I'm truly excited about this film!

Then...Refinery29 had a Trend Watch report that featured...you guessed it...aviator caps! How cute is red-headed Coco Rocha in her be-jeweled cap!!?? What do you think -- is this going to be the next fedora?

I am already thinking Amelia would be a great Halloween costume this year. If you're interested in Amelia, you should definitely check out the official website. Did you know she was:
♥ The first person to solo the 2,408-mile distance across the Pacific between Honolulu and Oakland, California; also first flight where a civilian aircraft carried a two-way radio
♥ First person to fly solo from Los Angeles to Mexico City; 13hrs 23min
♥ First person to fly solo nonstop from Mexico City to Newark; 14hrs 19min.
AMAZING!
