Halloween Costume Inspiration: Dia de los Muertos

I'm obsessed with this Dia de los Muertos-inspired photo session -- what a fantastic inspiration for a Halloween costume! During this time of year, I'm always throwing around ideas for costumes, and find it nearly impossible to narrow it down {I've narrowed it down to just a couple now...}. I like the idea that the makeup is the central focus here; it would take loads of time and concentration on my part to pull off, but I think the results would make it worthwhile.

Readers, what do you think? Do you have a brilliant costume ideas this year?

::P.S. The website source for this photo, called Served, is an amazing online portfolio of emerging artists in the fields of photography, fashion, graphic design, typography, etc. Check it out if you need a few hours of diversion.

this is an incredible costume idea! i would do it myself, except that i wear glasses. slapping a big ole pair o specs on top of all that beautiful makeup would just ruin it :( it's hard to think of good costumes for the visually challenged. i suppose i could go as Velma from Scooby Doo. the best costume i ever wore was for a movie themed party. i was Selma from Dancer in the Dark, complete with pins and a cookie tin full of money. 'course only 1 in 10 people new who i was supposed to be, but that's the price you pay for brilliance, right? ;)

I've been obsessed lately, with the face makeup, it's so pretty to me! I love the colorful masks and costumes. it's really inspiring. but I'm still deciding whether or not to do a MJ inspired look, (since I love him so) harajuku girl, or a flapper. I love Halloween! it's so magical ♥

I would love to be a ganster. So easy and a little risque. Also, Edie Sedgwick or Frida Kahlo. And I just saw this amazing costume from The Birds. It had felt birds attached all over it as if they were attacking. Too funny.

That is so pretty! And it's funny, too, because I just popped over to catch up and am putting together your 5 Things for tomorrow. Stay tuned :)

Oh this is beautiful! She looks like a greek goddess of Autumn.

I'll be 7 months pregnant at Halloween so for my costume I plan on painting my belly like a gumball machine!

Annie -- I never thought about the glasses dilemma! Selma definitely was a genius idea!

Lily -- All of those sounds like such fun costumes! Harajuku would be amazing!

Maggie -- I was Frida a few years ago -- one of my favorite all-time costumes!

Lil Bee -- Thanks you so much for posting my five things [and for popping in].

Kira -- Me too, I've always been a bit obsessed with Mexico. Have a lovely weekend yourself!

Willow -- LOL, I love that Halloween costume idea -- adorable!

I totally bailed on my costume last year and ended up being the 'b' girl--the woman who carved the 'b' backwards onto her cheek around election time.

I'd love to do something like this, tho!

An amazing picture! I love a good sun flare. And this is a genius Halloween costume idea which definitely beats my stupid ghost jellyfish idea which I was thinking about.

Wow, I love the Dia De Los Muertos pic. Came upon your site via the The LIL Bee. We honor this celebration of "Day of the Dead," in mi familia. It is an honorable celebration. Thank you for the imagery and for sharing.
