Colette was one of the first modern female writers I really fell for, and I'm over the moon with excitement for the new film adaptation of her classic novel, Cheri, starring the luminous Michelle Pfeiffer. The story depicts the relationship between an older woman, Lea, and her lover Cheri. I have always had a thing for the younger man/older woman dynamic [think Harold and Maude -- another of my favorites!].
Colette herself was an amazing woman, truly the complete package: a prolific, insightful writer, a fashionable, flamboyant performer, and a passionate lover of men, women, and life in general...

this post is very intriguing! i feel a bit ignorant, but i've never heard of Colette. perhaps i'll pick up a copy on my way home. thanks for the reccomendation!
Great, I'm so into Colette right now. I've been reading again my favourite novels this week, I think the best is definitely "La Vagabonde".
And I really have to see Cheri, even if I don't like the book that much.

Wow! I didn't know that movie was coming!
She's my FAVORITE French writer!
After reading Claudine for book club, I was almost more intrigued by the foreward detailing bits of her life than I was by her fiction. & wow, what a life--the biography I got my hands on was dense and full of detail. She really was one of a kind.
Thanks for this post. You know, we get the info on latest films slightly late in Japan, I'll definitely check this out.
