Friday Mood Board

{::I really can't stop dreaming of summer: particularly the divine retro swimsuits at Anthropologie right now}.

I've become so prolific at posting links on Twitter lately that I haven't felt like doing a "Weekend Links" post for a while. I'm sure the mood will strike soon. If you usually like my links and you're on Twitter, head over there and and have a peek...

What do you have planned for the weekend, my pretty peaches? Tonight we are celebrating my boyfriend's birthday with man food [chicken fried steak] and man activities [shuffleboard and pool]. I'm afraid the rest of the weekend will be spent grading papers and doing "work."

Today, I thought I would just do a little mood board with some of the things swirling around in my head. What have you been reading/watching/dreaming of lately...?

::I might not have ever mentioned how big of a sci-fi nerd I am, but the cat's out of the bag! I just finished watching Battlestar Galactica, and I'm looking forward to the new spin-off series: Caprica.

::Hayv Kahraman is a new artist I recently discovered: her exotic mix of Middle Eastern influences with an Italian Renaissance vibe is so captivating!

::I am in love with this fashion history book I received for Christmas; I want to frame every picture...

::I have been watching old Pixies videos online with my boyfriend and arguing for their status as the greatest band of all time. What is your vote?

  2. Love to hear you sharing Pixies love! What's your favorite song? Video? My favorite song easily used to be "Here comes your man." However, over the past couple of years, the song, "Hey," has usurped the top spot. I got to see them perform a couple of years ago when they reformed and I still hear rumors that a new album might be in the works for 2010. When I first found them, I remember sitting in front of my four foot speakers with the volume turned up to eleven and thought, "This is the only way to listen to them." They're definitely in my top bands, but not nearly as high up as The Replacements. Are you familiar with them? Two words: fucking brilliant! My guess is, if you like the Pixies, you'll love The Replacements. Check out hits like, "Can't Hardly Wait," "Androgynous," "Nobody," "Skyway, "Portland" or the classic, "All he wants to do is fish!"

I also can't ignore your mention of Sci-fi geekdom. Really, not since spending Saturday evenings with you and your mom awaiting the newest episode of Next Generation, has TV played such an important part of my life. Must See Thursday never had a hold on me like Watch Or Die Saturday. Have you tried the new series of Doctor Who? Go back to it's rebirth back in 2005 and give it a shot. Campy and fun with a British accent!

  10. Bess- I know, and there are so many other cute ones on the site. how will I decide??

Shelby - I could never really pick a favorite song - though I REALLY love "Gigantic" right now. I have never really listened to The Replacements. Thanks for the recommendation -- I'm going to download some ;)

Bueno- Thank you so much, and thanks for stopping by to say 'hello!' I agree on the retro suits; I bought one last year, but find myself wanting another.

Twila - I know, I keep visiting the site and looking at them...

Brigid- I agree; I'm over bikinis!

Maggie- Blade Runner is definitely at the top of my list as well! I just love the aesthetic, costumes, set...all of it!

Mary-Laure - The fashion book is just beuatiful, and very interesting; I've learned a lot about fashion history, materials, trends, etc.

Jill - I also can't wait to learn more about her. When I first saw her, I was just awe struck; it is so distinctive.

  12. Oh I have a Kyoto Costume Institute book, and I feel the same about wanting to frame all the pages. So much beauty concentrated into one book! And thankyou so much for bringing Hayv Kahraman to my attention...what a darling website and stunning portfolio she has.

Can't say I like the Pixies though!
