I made a serendipitous discovery of these stills from Kubrick's 1975 film "Barry Lyndon" right after a discussion with a friend today on the pros and cons of Kubrick's films [I don't like 2001/ but, LOVE Lolita]...now I desperately need to see this! It definitely seems to fulfill my quota for giant coiffures, feathered hats, and fake moles...
These stills are ravishing! I love "Lolita" too! So funny apart from anything else! I love "A Clockwork Orange" too - although I've seen it soooo many times it's kinda lost its meaning for me now. "2001" has its moments but really a bit boring I find...Gosh - I could go on forever! Apologies for the ramble!
ReplyDeleteI think I love you! These pics are amazing and I too, am obsessed with the same things! Marie Antoinette is my favorite movie, this is on my list of must see's for this week, thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteI must try to watch this movie again. My parents took me to see it when I was 9 and it seemed just SOOOOOO boring!
ReplyDeleteIt's very....slow, given the scope of the plot. I've read that Kubrick's goal was to replicate a lot of the paintings of the period. & while it is visually amazing, it was far from compelling.
ReplyDeleteSam -- Never apologize for rambling ;) Lolita was a truly beuatiful and subtle film.
ReplyDeleteJessica -- You are too sweet! I watched it this weekend, and while I didn't like it as much as M. Antoinette, it was still beautiful and sad.
Mary -- I can't imagine how boring it must have been at 9! I'm going to be honest, it was a bit too long for me, but I made it through finally!
ambika -- I watched it and agree with you on this. The funny thing is that I found Lady Lyndon fascinating, but Kubrick chose to focus on Barry instead, which I think kind of did the film a disservice. His character was far from sympathetic to me.
Great stills, love them.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've seen the film though, I must check it out.
